Numerous scientific publications show that the herbs turmeric and ginger reinforce each other. The combination has an anti-inflammatory effect, protects the blood vessels and suppresses the feeling of hunger.
The substances in ginger responsible for its powerful properties are gingerol, shogaol and zerumbone. In turmeric, curcumin, demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin are responsible for its many health benefits. Time and again, it has been shown that members of the ginger family have an anti-inflammatory effect. What's more, ginger and turmeric together help against oxidative stress. Using both herbs inhibits ROS (reactive oxygen species). ROS is a major factor in inflammation and the development of diseases, because more reactive oxygen compounds are produced than normal. These compounds damage all parts of a cell.
Leptin
The two herbs also influence our hormone system. The medicinal duo mainly affects the leptin level. Leptin is the ‘hunger hormone’. Normally, the body gets a hunger signal as soon as the amount of leptin is low. When you eat the herbs, however, it is increased, so you don't get a signal and therefore feel full. Incidentally, this also applies when they are used separately.
In addition, the medicinal duo works against arteriosclerosis and prostate cancer. Ginger-turmeric showed a clear inhibitory effect on metastases in prostate cancer. Here too, the combination proved much stronger than turmeric or ginger alone. For arteriosclerosis, it is mainly the combination of ginger-turmeric in distilled water that counteracts the formation of plaques in the blood vessels.
